What we check
About 70 checks across 12 areas, all from free public sources, scored by how much each one matters to a small business. Here is the full list.
Phones
Most of your visitors are on a phone. We check that the site fits a phone screen, that your number dials in one tap, that text is readable without zooming, and that there's a home screen icon.
Getting customers
A website should make the next step obvious. We look for a contact form or booking button, a clear call to action, your Google reviews, links to your social pages, and visitor tracking so you know what's working.
What search engines see. Page title and description length, one clear headline, canonical tag, hidden-from-search mistakes, robots.txt rules, sitemap, structured data (schema) for your business, language tag, share tags and Google's own SEO score.
AI readiness
Customers now ask ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI who to call. We check whether your text is readable without JavaScript, whether your robots.txt blocks 12 common AI crawlers, whether you have an llms.txt file, business schema AI can quote, and an FAQ section.
Speed
Google's mobile speed score with Core Web Vitals (LCP, CLS, TBT), plus our own checks: server response time, compression, caching, page size, render blocking scripts, page element count and redirect chains.
Local
For local search we look for your phone and street address as plain text, an embedded map, your hours, and complete business details (name, address, phone, hours, website) in your schema.
Content
Enough words for Google to understand what you do, headings in a sensible order, a healthy text to code ratio, and no outdated HTML.
Links
We open up to 8 of your key inner pages and report broken links, pages sharing the same title, pages with no description, whether a wrong address returns a proper 404, and links that open unsafely.
Images
Up to 12 images measured: oversized files, modern formats like WebP, lazy loading, set dimensions so the page doesn't jump, and alt text for every photo.
Security
The padlock (https), http to https redirect, HSTS, five common security headers, mixed content, SSL certificate expiry date and whether your server advertises its software.
DNS records for your domain: can it receive email (MX), and are SPF and DMARC set so scammers can't fake your address and your own mail doesn't land in spam.
Trust
Up to date footer year, privacy policy link, site icon, accessibility score from Google, and when your domain registration renews so the site never goes dark by accident.
Sources: your live pages, robots.txt, sitemap.xml, llms.txt, DNS (MX, SPF, DMARC), your SSL certificate, the public domain registry (RDAP) and Google PageSpeed Insights (Lighthouse).
Questions
Is it really free?
Yes. No sign up and no credit card. Run it on your site or a competitor's as many times as you like.
What do you check?
About 70 things across 12 areas: phones, getting customers, Google, AI readiness, speed, local, content, links, images, security, email and trust. The full list is on this page under What we check.
How is this free when other audit tools charge?
Every source we use is free: your live pages, robots.txt, your sitemap, DNS records, your SSL certificate, the public domain registry and Google's own PageSpeed test. We put them together and translate the results into plain English. We'd rather earn your trust with a useful report than charge for it.
Is this as good as a paid SEO audit?
For a small business homepage, it covers most of what a paid tool reports, in words you can act on. Paid tools add keyword rankings, backlink data and full site crawls of hundreds of pages. If you need that, we can run it for you.
Where does the speed score come from?
We run Google's own PageSpeed Insights test on the mobile version of your site. It's the same test Google uses.
Will this change anything on my website?
No. We read your homepage and up to 8 inner pages the same way a visitor would. Nothing is changed or stored on your site.
My grade is low. Now what?
Start with the items marked Fix at the top. Many take minutes. If you'd rather hand it off, send us the report and we'll tell you what's worth fixing first.
